Director of Manufacturing Engineering : Relocation available (Seattle, WA)


We are engaged in a search for an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to be a part of our client's team in the Seattle, Washington area.

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will lead manufacturing improvement initiatives at multiple facilities, oversee plant, building and equipment process improvements as needed for all areas of the food processing facilities. This person will lead internal and external resources to achieve high levels of machine up time and output. In addition they will manage the Facilities Technical Support group consisting of Energy Reduction, Ammonia Refrigeration/Utilities and the Wastewater/Storm Water teams. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will also manage/coach the Facility Engineering Managers, coordinate plant improvement efforts to achieve an effective and efficient low plant operation. Experience in a dairy and/or food & beverage environment with an emphasis on process and packaging equipment is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Lead Manufacturing Engineering activities and initiatives to improve through-put and quality
  • OEE/CI Improvement support to enhance existing manufacturing equipment to improve up-time and lower operational costs
  • Provide leadership in assessing current processes, developing and executing plans that will deliver improvements in safety, quality and cost through elimination of waste
  • Ability to facilitate and drive change in a fast paced and “ever changing” environment, leveraging his/her strong interpersonal skills.  Key to success in this position is the ability to work within the organization at all levels
  • Develop equipment standards and set process standards
  • Set reporting performance standards, equipment training and develop a succession plan for the plant level Engineering and Maintenance staff
  • Manage the direct plant driven capital project activities including equipment improvements and/or replacement in company plants and facilities
  • Prepare Capital Expenditure requests as needed and maintain budgets
  • Oversee Capital Expenditure activities including equipment purchases, contracted labor and in-house construction and fabrication projects
  • Design, implement and maintain record keeping of plant improvements and changes
  • Stay current of all state & federal compliance issues i.e. lock out/tag out, confined space, environmental etc.
  • Facilitate and fosters a teamwork oriented philosophy
  • Coach and mentor employees on the practical application of lean manufacturing, problem solving tools, and efficient working environment
  • Provides resources and training needed to execute plant projects
  • Ability to lead, train, facilitate must be evident; self direction and self motivated.
  • Stay current on technological changes such as retrofitting machinery to meet today’s new laws and efficiency standards
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Engineering or other internal customers   

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in all phases of maintenance and repair to include; mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and building maintenance, wastewater treatment, boiler operation and maintenance, and refrigeration
  • Ability to identify, assess, and develop process improvement projects and appropriate financial justification
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop a strategic plan for each facility
  • Demonstrate the ability to utilize “Best Practices” and transfer that knowledge to other facilities
  • Exposure to Lean, 5S and Six Sigma
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Ability and desire to work in a team oriented environment
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and writing skills
  • Computer literate in PC based applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and other common PC based applications
  • Good technical understanding of Manufactured Dairy Products operations and equipment
  • Ability to handle conflict and display excellent diplomacy skills in handling situations which can be disruptive to the organizations business development
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD      

Education, Experience and Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 7 - 9 years experience managing the activities of an engineering and/or maintenance department  
  • Experience with multiple significant capital projects  

Facility Engineering Manager in Seattle : Relocation available


My client is seeking an experienced Facility Engineering Manager. This person must possess the desire and vision to manage multiple facility driven capital projects, oversee plant building and equipment replacement for all areas of the dairy processing plant or related facilities and lead internal and external resources to achieve high levels of machine up time and output.

This role serves as a partner in the Operations Division, and works with the plant leadership team as a resource to coordinate plant improvement efforts and to support in achieving an effective and efficient low cost operation. 
 Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned): 
  • Work with Corporate Engineering on the corporate driven capital projects, Energy Reduction Initiative, Ammonia Refrigeration & Wastewater Systems.
  • Develop a capital plan for plants that they would be responsible for with feedback from plant management and the plant leadership team.
  • Manage and direct plant capital project activities based on the Plant Manager and Corporate Engineering’s direction including equipment replacement in Company plants and facilities.
  • Prepare Capital Expenditure requests utilizing competitive quotes as needed and maintain budgets.
  • Oversee Capital Expenditure activities following all Corporate AFE guidelines including equipment purchases, contracted labor and in-house construction and fabrication projects.
  • Design, implement and maintain record keeping of plant improvements and changes.
  • Stay current of all state & federal compliance issues i.e. lock out/tag out, confined space, environmental etc.
  • Maintain and enforce performance standards for all contractors.     
  • Facilitate and fosters a teamwork oriented philosophy.

  • Responsible to maintain a safe clean working environment during all project work.
  • Stay current on technological changes such as retrofitting machinery to meet today’s new laws and efficiency standards.
