Our growing client is seeking to hire a Database Engineer for their office in San Francisco, CA. This role will be a member of their Informatics team, with focus on maintaining, monitor, and securing all production databases in a distributed cloud-based environment, while maintaining high-availability.
Secondary responsibilities include: 1) supporting an Agile development team across multiple dev/stage/production environments; 2) database design, performance optimization and tuning; 3) database health monitoring and reporting; 4) securing sensitive data from acquisition to archiving; 5) developing disaster recovery and high-availability plans.
Required Skills:
- M.S. / B.S. in Computer Science or related field and 7 years relevant experience or Ph. D. and 2 years relevant experience
- SQL, relational database design
- Expert understanding of database theory, structure, and design principles
- Postgres and/or Oracle design, development, and administration
- Linux + AWS and/or HPC
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enjoys being a member of a close-knit team
- Self-motivated and passionate about your work
- Attention to detail
- On-call availability
Required Experience:
- Development and support of 24x7 n-tier web applications
- Database design, development, deployment, and maintenance in a high-throughput production environment
- Development and deployment in cloud (AWS) and/or HPC environments
- Database troubleshooting and performance tuning.
- OLTP and data warehousing
- Planning and executing data migrations between systems
- Report generation to support business needs
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations and best practices
Preferred Experience:
- Oracle database certifications a plus
- CompTIA, CISSP or other IT security certifications a plus
- Amazon RDS (Oracle, Postgres)
- MongoDB, Redis
- Agile development, JIRA, Confluence
- Software engineering and web application development
- Python, SQL Alchemy
- Bioinformatics / NGS experience a plus
